Does the thought of visiting a dental office fill you with fear? Are you ever anxious or nervous leading up to or during a dental treatment? Ask Dr. Kerry Olszewski about sedation dentistry in Mill Creek, Washington. Sedation dentistry is the use of medication to help those with dental fears relax during treatment. At Mill Creek General Dentistry, we offer nitrous oxide and oral sedation.
Nitrous oxide, which is also known as laughing gas, is inhaled through the nose during treatment. Our dentist will place a small mask, which supplies nitrous oxide mixed with oxygen, over your nose. The gas will help you relax, but you will remain awake. Our dentist can monitor and control the amount of sedation you receive. After your dental procedure, the gas will wear off quickly and you will be able to drive yourself home.
If you choose oral sedation, our dentist will have you take a pill about an hour before the procedure. This will make you drowsy and you may not remember much of the procedure. Some people become groggy enough that they fall asleep, but they can easily be awakened with a gentle shake. The level of sedation can be controlled depending on the dosage given.
