Did you know that men are less likely than women to seek preventive dental care and take great care of their smiles? Well, it’s true, according to the American Dental Association. This is why it’s extremely important for men to change their ways and finally make their teeth and gums a top priority.

If you are one who does any of the following things, our Mill Creek General Dentistry team asks you to keep your oral health in mind:

Take medications
Medications tend to cause dry mouth, which is a common but dangerous dental issue. If you don’t produce the right amount of saliva in your mouth, the bacteria will remain and tooth decay can form. So, if you have dry mouth, please remember to chew sugar-free gum, avoid drinking alcohol, use alcohol-free mouthwash, and avoid smoking.

Use tobacco products
Tobacco is a dangerous substance that can cause oral cancer and gum disease. If you use tobacco products, the best thing you can do for your smile and oral health is to quit the habit. We also strongly recommend visiting your dentist every six months so you can keep your teeth and gums as healthy as possible.

Play sports
Playing sports is a great way to stay active and keep your body in tip-top shape, but there are things that can happen during the game or practice that can injure your smile. This is why our team recommends wearing a mouthguard while you play; that way your smile will be protected from the hard, forceful objects that hit it.

Please feel free to use these tips to care for your male smile. The more you care for your teeth and gums, the higher of a chance you’ll have of maintaining a strong and healthy smile.
